Bottom Repairs '67 35ft Corinthian

Post by evansjw44 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 3:20 pm

I will be posting pictures and progress on the repair of the bottom on my '67 35ft Corinthian Sea Skiff. I used to say that Sea Skiffs don't rot but that has been proven to be untrue - even by myself. Not many boat wrights that know how to do the lapstrake bottom rebuild anymore. Should mke for some interesting reading. Stay Tuned for the next exciting episode.

Looking forward to your report. I've never worked on a sea skiff. Will be interesting to see how you go about it.

Jim,
Search Fein tools. I did a bottom on a 28' many years ago. It was not cheap but saved time and the job turned out better.

Sure Jim, you of all people I know can handle this. Rockwell sonicrafter or fein tool and go to work on removing some plank sections etc etc. Price on the blades has come way down, especially if you search around.

DO keep us in the loop.

Thanks for the great help you have been to me in the electrical department over these many years.

I am doing this repair with my check book. I have been engaged with a fine experienced craftsman in the area who is going to do most of the work. I did a similar job mostly myself a few years ago on the other side of the boat in roughly the same area but I learned my boatwright knew way more than I did and could do this less colateral damage.

But I want document for the club what this entails.

Yes I have a Fien tool. I like it lot. I use it a lot. I paid a lot for it.

Thanks for doing this Jim. I look forward to the posts. This will be a great resource for the club and especially us fellow skiffers.
