1942 17' Special Runabout Battery Box, Tool Box

Post by jcpatrick » Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:12 am

Hello, I am looking for some photos and/or diagrams of the battery box and tool box(?) and any other factory items located in the engine compartment of my 1942 17' Special Runabout. These items were missing when I bought the boat. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks! Jim

These pages are scanned from an article I wrote in Classic Boating magazine in the Jan/Feb 2012 issue, #165.
The first tool box shown is for late 20's, early 30's.
The CAD drawings are for your '42, 17'.

I've seen them built in a few different ways but mostly they were made from pine or butternut front and back and bottom and then deck planking for the sides which would be 3/8 to 1/2 mahogany. The dimensions are just as the artical was written with screws and nails. I have even seen deck seams in the side like they used some mahogany thay all ready had the deck seam cut into them. Follow the artical above but make it so it fits your battery and you will be good for the judges.
