| Where can I go to get information on this show so I can make the most of it. I hear it is one of the largest and best. I also need to know what there is to do for my wife to enjoy (shopping, crafting, etc). |

I am lucky enough to have a wife that likes the boats as much as I do, but for those who don't share my good fortune in that respect, there is tons to do in Mt. Dora.
Last year was the first time we went to this show, and we really enjoyed Mt. Dora. It is a quaint, old town that is filled with many, many interesting boutiques, antique stores, craft shops and the like. In fact, I believe there is a shopping and craft fair of some sort that goes on the same weekend as the boat show. The streets were filled with vendors and stalls last year. This year, we are going to take a bit more time to check out the town. It is only a few miles from the site of the boat show.
You'll be lucky to get her out of there once the show is over. Should be lots on info on the web. |

Is there a swap meet at this show? I got a flight out of rockford for 29$! It turns into about 79$ after all the ridiculous fares, but still pretty good. _________________ 1942 17' Deluxe |

Adding to what others have said. Mt Dora is in a world of its own. It's definitely "old Florida" with main street, small town charm. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and places to see. My wife and kids also like going on the boardwalk, literally a wooden walkway the meanders trough the Cypress bogs, out over the water, and back through dense wetlands. On the three years that we have walked this we have always seen gators, which is high on the list of "must sees" for kids.
There was some great information posted on the show last year at: http://www.chris-craft.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=2194 _________________ Bill Basler

Will see you all in Mt. D/tavares!
Did anyone else notice that the just arrived "RUDDER" issue contains NOT A WORD about Dora???
Some fellow traveler ask about a swap meet...heck this is the biggest boat flea market on the east coast, and no mentinon, even in the March events section of the Rudder???

John, are you driving to Tavares this year? How far are you from Lynchburg Va. If you are not far from me and you have the room, I have some items I need to get to Bill ( Southern Crown Boatworks). I am going to fly down.
Mark C would be nice to see some of the guy's we did the 2 3/4" pipe deal with. Hope to see you there. _________________ Phil Jones

I am extremely disappointed that I can't be in Tavares this year. I had an agonizing choice to make between abandoning my wife and grand daughter on their Spring break or being with them for the week on some beach. The RV will be within just a few miles of Florida's west border on Alabama's Golf Coast but still an 8 or 9 hour drive from the show.
Two years ago we split our time between the beach and the show. Last year I left them at home and went to the show without them, so this year is pay-back, I guess.
Last year's show was possibly the best experience of a lifetime, thanks to Wilson Wright and others. Thanks, Wilson. And thanks for your concern, Don, it means a lot to me.

Al:
I have made every Mt. Dora event since the first one at Sanford in 1981...Kinda like Perfect attendance at Kiwanis. Last year was one of the nicest shows I've attended, thanks to your generous hospitality. I really enjoyed that. Like you there are family commitments this year and I haven't made any reservations....We have a new beach house at Carrabelle and present plans are to be there although Terry called a few weeks back and said there might be special reason for me to be in Mt. Dora and he'd call back and confirm. So far no word on that score so maybe I misinterpeted his comments.
If you get as far east as Carrabelle, I'll give you directions to our place which is right on the beach on US 98. _________________ Wilson Wright

Everyone
I recieved a note with my show confirmation on rooms at Mission Inn. This is a great resort within 5-8 miles from the show and a straight shot.
The Mission Inn Resort & Club
Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida
800-874-9053
$89.00/night plus tax
This is a good deal for the quality of this resort.
You should be able to pull up on their website if interested just let them know you are attending the show for the special rate.
If you play golf you have to play the old course at this Inn which is was built in the 20's and is a true Old Florida Golf Course.
Hey you treat the wife to this resort and shopping in Mount Dora and you won't see her until Sunday PM and you will be at the Mount Dora show every year...

I am also at the Mission Inn 89 a night. My wife is able to come and use the spa...Thats a great deal. Looks like there are going to be a ton... several tons.. of boats there. The Riva Chris Craft dinner has been moved to a tent because of the huge turnout. _________________ 1941 19' Custom
