Tahoe Boat Show from 1985

Post by BrokenRule2 » Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:13 am

I was given a couple dozen photos from the 1985 Tahoe Boat Show. My question is gauging the interest of fellow members in viewing these old photos?

If so, I'll post them to Picasa for your viewing pleasure. If not, I'll dedicate the time to sanding and varnishing  in place of scanning and posting.

I heard a rumor that spring was near...

I see no evidence that spring is near, it snowed yesterday!

If you don't find interest here, woodyboater.com seems to always be looking for old photos to display.

I would love to see them. Post 'em. By the way, no sign of Spring here either. After reaching 80-degrees about two weeks ago, we are working real hard to reach 45-50. With rain, and a spit of snow every once in awhile no less.

Scanned from negatives, not from photos, no touch-ups. The 44 photos are from the estate of Jon M Riley, Assistant Fire Chief, City of Vallejo. His son gave me the photos. Back of the photos are dated Aug 1985.

Awesome pics.

Looks like things were a little more laid-back in the 80's.

Thanks for taking the time to scan and post those. Ahhh, the '80's...wide deck seams and Frankie Goes to Hollywood....

I remember the 80's it was muscle cars and cruising. That soon came to an end when the powers that be shut down cruising and California smog check made life hard. These are what I gave up for the big cruiser.

Even after spending this weekend sanding so I can spend an extend weekend next week and take five days to varnish, I don't miss the cars.

I do have a Blonde 8-Track if anyone has a use for it!

Just curious to know if anyone here can ID that unusual looking wooden race boat in the old Lake Tahoe Concours photos. Is it an early step hydroplane?

Looks a lot like Ethyl-Ruth IV, a 1934 27' Hacker gold cup race boat.

Reg,

That photo is of Chloe, a one-off 1934 Hacker 27' Gold Cup Race Boat then owned by the late, great, Alan Furth. The boat has since returned to its original name, Ethyl-Ruth IV - now owned by Lee Anderson.
