28' 6" Flagship (1941)
From ClassicBoatWiki
The 28' 6" Flagship was the new name used in 1941 as the continuation of the 28' Custom Runabout from 1940. Only one 28' 6" Flagship was built, hull number 6475. This boat was actually built in 1940 as a 1940 model 136, but was changed to a 1941 Flagship model when the boat was held by Gar Wood Inc. and used in their display at the 1941 New York Motor Boat Show. It was then sold in the early summer of 1941 to the Walker family on Lake Tahoe with the name Forty Pines. It was powered by the Scripps 302 V-12 engine.
The 1941 28' 6" Flagship was lengthened 6" from the previous 28' model and had increased freeboard. This was achieved by a raked aft transom, which created a rolled transition between the transom and aft deck. The 28' 6" Gar Wood, #6475 was the first Gar Wood to have this feature (and ironically the last of the 28' series boats built), which became standard on all 1941 and 1942 runabout models.
The 28' 6" Flagship was offered in 1942, but none were built.
