By 1934 the “Great Depression” had sent Chris-Craft sales to an all-time low point. Some additional marketing strategy would be needed to continue in the Cruiser business. Before his short-term departure, Mr. MacKerer had designed a small enclosed cruiser intended to give a family an opportunity to own a cruiser for under $1,500.00 and to keep the company in cruiser production.

[edit] Overview

The 24’ Family Cruiser was added to the 1934 fleet of cruisers in a desperate effort to maintain their cruiser production facility. Other cruisers were being built on a pre-order basis and not many were being ordered. Thus, the Family Cruiser and the Utility Cruiser were produced in hopes of increasing cruiser sales. The 24’ Family Cruiser slept 4 comfortably, included a galley and lavatory (head) which was perfect for the small family and was affordable.
