Sportsman
From ClassicBoatWiki
The Chris-Craft Sportsman, a utility-type hull, was possibly the most produced Chris-Craft model. Starting in the late 1930s and dying in the 1960s there were Sportsman models in 15.5-, 16-, 17-, 18-, 19-, 20-, 22-, 24-, 25-, and 29-foot lengths. There were approximately 8,000 units produced—even more if you add the Standard and Deluxe utility models that are sometimes referred to as Sportsmans.
The Sportsman was a basic boat designed to be used for hunting and fishing. In the 1950s more plush models were introduced. The basic Sportsman had competition from the Holiday and Continental. Sportsmans could be ordered with live wells, ice chest, rear steering for trolling, rod lockers, and and other "sporting" options. Several members of the Smith family had Sportsmans as personal boats.
Perhaps the most known event to popularize the Sportsman was when a 22-foot (U22) model was used in the movie "On Golden Pond". The U22 in this film, named the "Thayer IV", was a 1950 U22 Sportsman with hull number U22-1802.
