In 1955 Chris-Craft purchased the Roamer Boat Company of Holland, Michigan. Roamer had build their reputation building boats out of welded Steel, then later out of welded Aluminum.

Designated the Chris-Craft Roamer Division, the plant immediately engaged in the manufacture of welded, steel-hulled cruisers. This continued through the late 50s. In 1962, the Roamer Division manufactured their first boats out of aluminum. The move to this lightweight and malleable material was permanent as the division migrated models from steel to aluminum, with many models available in both steel or aluminum. Small pocket cruisers called Silver Comets and Custom Comets were among the first of the aluminum hulled boats. Following the Comets were the 32- and 26-foot Express Cruisers, The Express Cruiser Deluxe, Riviera Deluxe, 44-foot Riviera and the 56-foot Motor Yacht rounded out the top end of the product line.

After the sale of Chris-Craft to NAFI in 1960, the Roamer Division was transferred to Pompano, Florida in 1975.
