Re: Clearance between prop and rudder

Thank you Jim I made up a nice puller that bolts to the propshaft coupling and has a centre bolt to pull the coupling off the shaft. Work of art! Crawled into the boat and fitted it. All good. Then I found I could slide the coupling off the shaft by hand! C'est la vie. Going to shorten the shaft by ...

Re: Clearance between prop and rudder

Jim, thanks for the reply. Sorry for not checking earlier. Distance is 2 5/16 inch between prop and strut. If 3/4 is the go, then my feeling that mine is not right is confirmed. I don't see an issue with shortening the shaft, once I get it out of the boat. I really don't want to take the engine out,...

Clearance between prop and rudder

After a great many years I have finally got my 19ft Capri into the water! Great feeling and a life's work, so my wife says. I needed to totally rebuild the boat, taking the plans from the museum and needing to re-establish the hull and all the fundamental dimensions. I think I have ended up with the...

Thanks Jim

Seem like no real mystery. I will make it work with what I have. However, I think I will engineer a smart screw in pin to keep it in place. They cost too much to lose.

I am nearing the completion of the rebuild of my 1961 Capri. I have a new light pole and top ight plus the original base and components. However, the black plastic insert with the brass sleeve is damaged, as can be seen in the attached photo. I am unsure how the connection was made between the light...

Windshield rubber

I need new rubber for my 1961 Capri. The old bits are hard, brittle and crazed and I dont think they can be rejuvenated.

Can anyone advise me where to go for new ones.

Attached is a photo of the deck molding and the round insert that holds the glass.

Thanks

Re: 283 Manifolds

Thanks for the advice. My engine rebuilder just fitted the old manifolds without dismantling them so I have just pulled one off to look. It is a 3 pass system on the 283 block. There is quite a bit of flaky rust in the gas chamber and some blockage in the water galleries. The risers look OK. I have ...

Re: almost done my '57 Chris Craft Cruiser restoration, and seek final engine advice

Hi Mark For what it s worth I am also near the end of a restoration but mine is a 1961 Capri that had 283 V8. This block is in fact a GM block with all the CC bits and pieces. I also have a good bit of experience with auto engines and motor cycles, but mostly UK stuff from the 60s and 70s. So when I...

283 Manifolds

I am still rebuilding my 1961 Capri that has a 283 V8. It is getting close and I am about to trial fit the engine to make sure the shaft alignment is OK. I had the engine rebuilt about 15 years ago and it has been carefully stored since. It was preserved well and endoscope of the bores show no corro...

Re: Screws for rub rail on 1960 Capri

Many thanks for the replies.
I have fitted SS with No 8 stainless steel CSK head to get them fitted, but will now chase up correct screws.
It was an interesting job fitting all new SS. Attached photo shows the deliberate mistake. Can you spot it?

Re: Prop Shaft support strut

Thanks for that. I suspected that 5200 would not be the go. While at it I have another question. The rudder gland and bearing is fitted from inside the hull and two 3/8 brass bolts with rounded heads with square shank (coach bolt?) are inserted from the outside of the hull. It seems to me that it is...
