Need 1955 283 cooling water Wye fitting

Does anyone have one of the Chris-Craft wye fittings that splits the intake cooling water feeding the dual impeller water pump for a mid to late 50's C-C 283. Am working on an 18 ft. Holiday that we think originally had a 6 cylinder and someone in it's history retro-fitted a 283 into. They used a ca...

Re: Leaky water pump

Hi Jim, Give Depco pump over in Florida a call, I've gotten gaskets from and a few parts from them as I was restoring one for a Kermath recently. They will need the serial number of the pump (stamped on a flange I think). I think these are an old Sherwood. Put a caliper on the inside diameter of the...

Re: Looking for a 1940ish 3 spoke steering wheel

Thanks Jim and Al, I had a feeling after looking at it that it was not really going to work, especially looking at the center "pocket" for the throttle hardware etc. And the beat goes on - - - .

Re: Looking for a 1940ish 3 spoke steering wheel

Thanks Don, I had been looking at his website and have to say that it might be done when all other avenues have been exhausted. Ed, The main thing I'm not confident of is if those have a center top pocket that the throttle and horn components will fit into, and what the top mounting method is - tape...

Looking for a 1940ish 3 spoke steering wheel

Hi Crew, We are restoring a 1940 Model 6, 22' Deluxe Utility with the optional ventilating top. Somewhere in this boats history (It's been apart for many years) the wheel has disappeared. We have the throttle tube and all the parts that go with it. The steering shaft has the tapered top end with the...

Hi All, Get hold of Glen Cheney At Ace Alternator in Wichita and he'll rebuild yours into almost any configuration you wish. They still have all the old testing gear and knowlege. http://acewichita.com/index.html They have done several for me with acceptable turn around time. Excellent results! Paul

KLC Info please

Hi All from Central Iowa, We're starting restoration work on a 1949 17' deluxe runabout. The boat's new owner and I are just sending for this boat's hull card etc from Mariners Museum. It has a KLC engine in it which we didn't question as far as probable timeline for that year. As I've been looking ...

Re: Bilge Pump HELP

Sorry for coming in on this late but my favorite combination of pump and switch control is the Shureflo brand pump (1500 model), and the Water Witch brand solid state water level control switch (no actual float). "Practical Sailor"Magazine did extensive testing of many bilge pumps and switches avail...

Consider the Light Oyster color in the Epifanes paint product lines #24 in the Yacht Enamel group, #24 in the Nautiforte line, #3124 in the Monourethane (1 part) group, #804 in the 2 part Polyurethane group.
All are VERY durable. Roll and tip with these works well for me.

Vinyl covered Tach cable.

Don, I have found that for a non judged boat, I can go to local heavy equipment and semi truck service centers (Mack, Kenworth, FreightLiner, Cat, etc.) and they have the bulk inner and outer cable stock on hand. Older trucks - still in service had mechanical tach's and occasionally need a new cable...

Here is another fellow who has a nice small business building up Fuel pump and carb kits including marine. He made me up a kit for an AC style pump for a Kermath engine. Thanks Jim and Al, Great info for those of us that are going the generator conversion route. With these old Chryslers, the generator and water pump are gear driven so keeping them going is the most practical option - but expensive. Almost impossible to put a belt driven anything on these very self c...

Thanks Al, We were pretty sure that would be an OK senario as far as the engine wiring scheme goes. Our newly rebuilt generator has a single lead coming off the voltage limiting relay (cutout) that is mounted right on the generator. Where would be a good spot in the circuitry to tie in this charging...

A friend and I are completely rebuilding a 1948 utility style boat that he procured up in Wisconsin for not very much $$. It was a case of buyer beware because it's condition was not as advertised. Allan,
My Higgins with an Interceptor 240HP V8 (352 ci) uses a 1" dia. stainless (Aquamet type) shaft. From '57 on, all the later Higgins sport boats used 1" shafts. Prior to that, with the sixes, they were 7/8" dia..

Al, there are several devices like that out there. All one needs is a solid state phone dialer (that you program yourself) that accepts a binary contact closure from another device like a float, low temp/hi temp., smoke, etc. It dials where you tell it. They are used all the time for central compute...

Tach Cable Info

Most any haevy equipment company's parts/service dept.
(or semi truck) ie. Cat, Kenworth, International, Mack etc., has bulk spools of outer casing and inner spin wire and an assortment of the various ends (crimped) to custom make tach and speedo cables for older equipment. FYI
