Starting issues
I have a 1949 17' deluxe runabout with a 131hp KBL 3 carb engine. It's a 6V system with a brand new electronic ignition and coil. Once the engine starts, I have no difficulty starting it the next day or even day after...at most maybe 3 or 4 days. But if I don't run the engine for 5 or more days, it ...

Trouble starting 131 hp kbl 1949 17' deluxe runabout
I started the summer with a new battery, coil, and condenser. Put new plugs in last year. All summer the boat started right up and ran smoothly. Then today I couldn't start engine. It would crank but just not start. I checked plugs and they sparked. I checked carbs for water and there was none. Afte...

Re: engine water leak
Hi all, Thanks for the advise....I hammered it back in, started the engine and it ran just fine. I will get a new core and replace. What troubles me is that I use -50 RV anti freeze along with Marvel mystery oil to winterize....perhaps I will run the solution a minute or two longer than in the past....

engine water leak
When I placed my 1949 CC deluxe runabout in the water for the first time this spring today and started the engine (131hp KBL), water came flying out of the engine through one of the imbedded "circles" on the right side (looking forward) of the engine block very close to the oil pump in the rear of t...

running temperature
I've never had the boat above 3200 rpm's (lake is only 5 miles in circumference) and at that speed temp is 150-160...In further checking with some engine restorers and some Hercules mechanics, the consensus seems to be the running temperature should be 140 degrees...

Running temperature
I have a 1949 17' Deluxe Runabout with a 131hp KBL engine (3 carbs)...At 1000-1700 RPM's, the engine temperature is between 120-135 degrees. But when I take it up to 2500 RPM's, it goes to 140-150 degrees. I just replaced the impeller, checked the hoses and there is plenty of water coming out of the...

57 Chris....the intial attempt to start the engine was met with nothing...completely dead...the next few attempts were met with an inability to start the engine but with the "normal" noise that accompanies attempted starts... A Hercules mechanic I spoke with today said it sounds like either the coil...

Boat stops running for no apparent reason
I have a KBL 131hp 17' 1949 deluxe runabout....I was going along smoothly at 2500 RPM's when the engine just stopped. My first attempt to re-start was met with no response...dead...then my next attempt about a minute later was met with the normal engine trying to turn over...it took about 8 attempts...
