Re: 283 with 5 people and 3 lg dogs aboard

Alas, I don't have the hull number. All the work we've done and I can honestly say I have never even looked for it. I should definitely give a gander...

Prop is the one from the '65 Cavalier which is where our motor came from. She was wider and shorter.

I want to switch

I think I want to switch insurance, Will I have to have the boat inspected/appraised again? Since buying her four years ago we have made several improvements...ie AC/heat, bottom paint, hull & deck paint, etc... I went to the website to get a quote but there is no option for a 1968 Cavalier Futura 2...

Re: 283 with 5 people and 3 lg dogs aboard

I may have forgotten to mention the giant cooler of beers, a full fridge, full gas tank, nearly waste tank and half full water tank....I think I am still *paranoid* after nearly sinking my first excursion out on the lake with friends almost four years ago. I go out on the lake alone and she handles ...

Re: Looking for clarity

Okay so, there was water in the tank, and the pump works...the switch is bad. Knock it and it starts fine. Same with the horn. Bad switch, or so we think today. Ordered a new one just to see if we're right, even though I have another from the 65 Cavalier we parted out. Went with chrome of course.

Re: Looking for clarity

Okay, so same issues, different year. The trickle charger we had was dead so I installed a two bank charger recently. Now the batteries are charging fine but the horn and the sink pump don't. We keep getting the yard guys to go down and check it and they say it was a bad ground one day, the next it'...

Re: 283 with 5 people and 3 lg dogs aboard

1968 Cavalier Futura 26' Performs great with the usual two aboard (+ two dogs), best performance is with just one aboard. (me) but I think thats just me being selfish Prop came off a 65 cavalier, 25 footer. (newish/old) as did the 283/185 (all rebuilt and restored by professionals before I got'm) re...

Re: uh Oh!

I should mention that the other day I went up to the boat to install the new marine battery charger after two days of no charger and walked into two inches of water in the galley...NEVER GOOD. Immediately I started formulating a plan, who to call, what the F, where to start, but because of the elect...

Re: uh Oh!

Doesn't seem like it's been this long but it has and I couldn't imagine a world without our boat. I look at the boats at our marina all the time, and yes I envy some of the modern amenities, but all & all we have everything they have...awesome deck, head, kitchen, sleeps two, AC, dinette etc... Noti...

Does anyone know who's boat this was? Are they online? I've heard little girl was burned pretty badly, I want to invite them to my restaurant, intown. We're SO close to the hospital where she is being treated, and I feel so badly for them. Last time we went out on the lake I didn't hit the blowers o...

Congratulations, Bill...You are definitely almost in the water. There's a Connie one dock over from us that has undergone a lot of the same. A few months ago she sold to another person who is finishing the re-do that was started when they ran out of cash. She's really starting to look like herself a...

Re: uh Oh!

Bill, fill and paint for now, scape and recanvas come winter time. I'll snap some photos of my quick fix after today...We're going out on the water with the pups. I used almost half a quart of filler all over the top, and a whole quart of paint. I still have the hard top to paint but I'm not afraid ...

Re: Fresh water worms?

John, I hate to lurk, so I'm posting a reply. I really hope there are no fresh water worms...but with the strange weather changes maybe something has morphed over to the rivers...Louisiana has a problem with new species of shrimp that are taking over the local populations. Most likely it was prior d...

Re: uh Oh!

To Plywood then! It just seems like with the planks, and hardwoods you KNOW what to put back and where...plywood has an undertone, a suspicious nature that grows things...like rot...in an undeterminable place until it is too late. AND THEN what????? The classic boat, worth nothing unless it sinks is...

Re: Head/Toilet Problem 1966" 37' Connie

How's the impeller? When I was re-doing ours I found that the impeller could be put in incorrectly, and the screws could be over tightened. There was also a vacuum line that originally attached to a sanitizer/deodorizer that is obsolete now, when the valve opened the line sucked air, if not properly...

Re: uh Oh!

Thanks Jim, I finished the putty and put a clean coat of shiny white paint on yesterday, she looks great. The cabin top seems to go under the windshield , there is a seam about half way, so not a single sheet of plywood. I don't suppose I have to change ALL of it, the helm looks okay. I am more conc...

Re: uh Oh!

I have new regard for "fill it" stuff. I have always had a pie-eyed want to do things right, really I did, UNTIL yesterday. I started to dig out channels where I saw lines in the paint so the compound would adhere better and chunks of moist and rotted plywood disintegrated before my very eyes. The d...

Peter, thanks I think you were point on with the battery cables. We've got to start a more regular schedule of fixing things or else I'll end up where I started. Hi John! Why on earth would the guys at the shop think it's the carb? I have to admit since we put the new "old" engine in, it feels very different in a lot of ways. I think I'm a little PTSD from all the issues we've had but the boat feels heavier in the water. Could be me of course but seems like ...

Hello to everyone. It has been awhile since I have been online looking at the "buzz" and it seems I missed quite a bit of scuttlebutt. Before I ask my question I just want to state that I whole heartedly support Al Benton in his new role as well the others that have undertaken the task of managing t...

Getting up on plane?

So my inexperience with boating has me feeling insecure about getting up on plane and I wonder if I ever have? The new/old engine runs wonderfully and this weekend we had my parents, two brothers, and both of us out on the lake. The boat is a 68 Futura 26 ft, and everyone wanted to be on the aft dec...
