Re: Water vapor

Thanks Mfine the engine never got significantly hotter than normal in regards to exhaust log and heads. It appears that we narrowed the culprit down to the dreaded E10 (ethanol) fuel it was my mistake in using it but after consulting some well informed sources it is evident that it results in higher...

Water vapor

I have noticed that my gray marine phantom 4 seems to be producing more water vapor than usual - can this be caused by lower water temp in the lake? I imported my CC from the USA to Australia in late 2013 and this is the first time I have run it in cooler winter water (by no means cold) but the temp...

John, I couldn't agree more - I saw quite a few before I found my "cheapie!!". And I hope I can avoid one on the next go around - my wife is already saying the 15' is too small. I am glad to hear you say your a plywood guy - I have been following along closely with your Argentine Runabout adventure ...

John, I do not have the experience of seeing friends pour money into holes in the ocean like you and I can agree with you that some boats are obviously not viable projects for how much time is required and financial reasons. But can you not see that "cheap" plywood boat restoration (I am talking abo...

Great stuff Tom!! I agree with you about the style of boats helping to keep the hobby accessible and affordable for the younger crowd (I am about half the age of my 55'). My son is 4 so I am hoping that not all boats have been rescued by the time he is old enough to help with one. The value of the c...

Roger, Yeah it looks very much like my 1955 Cavalier 15". In my opinion the value of restoring that boat can also be seen in the experience it will give you - I bought my boat knowing that I would have to replace the bottom almost straight away (turned out that my dad and I got to take her out once ...

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I should have said I had previously checked fluid levels and yes it is a shared lubrication system. It turns out that I had perhaps over tightened the reverse so I backed that off and tightened the forward gear (almost a full turn on the the threads). Got the great soun...

Transmission slip

Help needed with phantom 4 transmission. I have the boat out on deep creek lake in MD and I have been experiencing slipping and it is getting progressively worse - first began at 2700 rpm now it is appearing at 1700 rpm which means the boat will not get up on plane. I have adjusted the collar previo...

5200 drying/curing

Quick question - do I need to wait the full 7 days for the 5200 to cure fully or can I fair over and paint before? Will it continue to harden under? I now know why all the pictures on Boat Buzz showing tools have 5200 all over them!! I was up to my elbows in and the old Dewalt tools have a nice cove...

CPES cleanup/brushes

Hi can I get some advice on what is the best product to use for keeping my CPES brushes alive? I have been using and throwing away a brush each time so far but that has gotten old already.
Is the Smith's solvent the only thing that will stop this monster?
It is a fabulous product I must say.

My 1955 15' Cavalier is listed on my Mariners Museum Hull card as being shipped on 2/10/55 with Hull # V-15-033 so I would think yours is a 1956 based on the hull # difference of 310 units. Does it have "Chris Craft Cavalier" decal on the side or just "Chris Craft"? My 1956 Brochure from Mariners Mu...

So after testing the 3/8" mahogany plywood I am going to go ahead and use it - it seems to cope with the bow transition area curve. I have a question regarding the filler I should be using for the counter sunk screw holes in the hull? The material is to thin to allow for bungs and the bottom I took ...

I had the exact same problem with my Phantom 4-75 and trans. I found the answer in one of my chris craft reference books (still trying to find the page I marked - so I can send it to you) But in my case it was a very simple adjustment to the band running around the drive shaft (just unbolted the cov...

Tom, thanks for the advice especially the bit regarding the aft end framing height. Tied into the engine stringers and the side stringers it is really sturdy. Topp...

After speaking with Seth at Katz Marine about my 15 ft 1955 PLywood Cavalier I have decided to roll it over myself and try my hand at repairing the delaminated sections.
