Re: Leaky bilge
Thanks to both of you. I'm thinking maybe I will have her hauled at the end of the season and at least have the planks that abut the chine pulled and examined. I know there is a lot of variability here, but exactly how often should the bilge pump be running in a 66 year-old wooden boat when the bott...

Leaky bilge
My 1953 33' Sedan Cabin cruiser Samba is stored, covered, in the water here in N Idaho on Lake Pend O'Reille. This year we suffered a partial sinking (long story, bilge pump hung up with debris and failed, discharged battery, etc...) Obviously will go with another level of redundancy with pumps and ...

Interior cabin walls
The interior cabin walls (below the windows, of course) of my 1953 33' Sedan Cabin Cruiser appear to be perhaps 1/4" mahogany veneer plywood. The stain and varnish are in rough shape, as I feel that humidity is lifting the varnish in the cold seasons when it's challenging to keep the boat ventilated...

Re: Overcharging
Engines are KLS. Mechanic is in the middle of the project, apparently. Word from front desk is "He said he needs to take the generator in to a local shop to have it adjusted." Will see what it turns out to be. Also, will check out the link to the bulletin--thanks.

Overcharging
5 years ago I changed the electrical from 6V to 12V on my 1953 Sedan cabin cruiser. My generators were re-wired for the new voltage. On my maiden run one engine did not charge at all and one overcharged. Went back to the dock, mechanic said he had "fried " the regulators and one was stuck fully on, ...

Re: Cockpit floor stain
Thanks so much. Mine is thus Doug Fir, definitely not teak. Will varnish over the caulk as well. Thanks for backing up my leanings with experience; hate to do these things twice!

Cockpit floor stain
I am refinishing the floor of the aft cockpit on my 1953 34' Sedan Cabin Cruiser. Obviously not mahogany; as I understand it, the floor material is spruce or fir? Down to bare wood now. 2 questions- Was there a stain on this wood, or was it just varnish over bare wood? After stripping but before san...

Re: Throttle control
Thanks so much for the replies. Had my mechanic take a look and cables were actually OK. Turns out that the real issue was that one of the spark plug wires had come off the top of the distributor. Problem solved. At low rpm's the difference was minimal; as I advanced the throttle the engine with onl...

Throttle control
I've had my 1953 33' Chris craft sedan cabin cruiser for five seasons now, and even the first season I found that the starboard throttle had to be advanced farther than the port throttle to have the RPMs match between the two engines. At lower RPMs they were relatively similar; as I advanced the RPM...

Hard to shift
I have a twin engine 1953 33 foot sedan cabin cruiser. It's never been particularly easy to shift into forward or reverse, but this spring the port shift arm is especially stiff. It seems much more stiff than it was last fall before winterizing. Phoned my mechanic, I was wondering if this was in the...

hull leak
Samba is my 1953 Sedan Cabin cruiser, and in March I posted re: a hull leak. Now I have more info. Basically seeping up (much more vigorous immediately after motoring) through starboard hull aft in region between propellor shaft and rudder, on inside of hull. Have gone under boat with swim mask, and...

Re: Gasket material
Thank you. Jim G., it is the same type as the gasket material on the porthole cover for the deck, but for the through-hull portholes it is a bit larger dimension. You mentioned that you can get it. What is your source?
Thanks so much,

Re: Generator
Thanks so much to all for the good advice. I think I'm going to let my mechanic put a limited amount of effort in it, but not send a lot of time and money after it if it is not a relatively easy fix. Dan (Samba)

Hull leak
My 1953 34ft Sedan Cabin Cruiser has an almost completely dry hull. However, the inside hull on the starboard side has a slow continuous trickle in the region just forward of what appears to be the mounting region for the prop shaft strut. There is an approx 1/2" thick plank 6" x 20" or so mounted j...

Generator
My 1953 Sedan Cabin Cruiser has a generator under the back deck. It turns over but does not run yet. I believe it is 5000W, and 120 volts. I have talked to some who know a little, but no experts. One mechanic said it starts on its own when it is turned on and then a load is placed on it. My boat was...

Gasket material
The gasket material around the hull portholes in my 1953 Sedan Cabin Cruiser is stiff and cracking. Any leads on a good source for new gasket material? Local marina was no help.

Lampshades
Any good source for those "partial lamp shades" that just fit onto the front of the small lights in the cabin? Mine in my 1953 Cabin Cruiser look to be original and are slowly disintegrating.

Exhaust leak
I have a 1953 34' Sedan cabin cruiser with twin 105 hp KL series engines. The port engine seems to have an exhaust leak at higher rpm's (above 2500 or so). Inspection reveals no major exhaust jet, just a general collection of exhaust fumes in its vicinity. Upon launching this spring, the mechanic wh...
