Winterizing K motor with Holley thermostat.

Have a K motor with a Holley thermostat that I need to winterize using the RV antifreeze method. Have done it many times on non thermostated engines...but never one with a thermostat. Any thoughts? Just want to be sure that I am getting antifreeze in the block and everywhere it needs to be. Many Tha...

Re: Shortening an Iva-Lite cable can it be done?

Thanks for the reply. Had mine shortened by Ivalite owner Dick Sligh. Fortunately I live in Grand Rapids MI and Dick is located in Holland MI 30 miles away. Talked to him on the phone and he started to explain to me how to do it...after hearing many caveats, I asked Dick if he would like to do it......

Re: Bimini Top 1957 26' CC Sports Express

I am currently having the convertible top on a 1956 Chris Craft 25' Express Cruiser. I am using the original bows and hardware. I had the bows and hardware rechromed. The company I choose is called "The Nautical Needle" out of Holland MI. They are also doing side curtains and a back drop. I've attac...

I'm using standard cap and rotor on a IAY 4009 distributor. Don't know why the bigger cap and rotor in the video. With the standard cap the only way that a boat show judge would know there was electronic ignition is the extra wire coming out of the distributor. I got mine from a website I believe wa...

I've had Pertronix in my ML for many years and also have them in a K engine. As Jim Staib said "hasn't missed a beat" Originality is one thing, reliability is another. With Pertronix you don't have moisture affecting the points. They do not degrade over time. I keep the original style points and dis...

You need that friction brake that was pictured in Don's article. The throttle lever needs to move very little to increase rpms. I had the same problem. it would just creep while underway and the throttle lever would move going down the road on the trailer. Tightened the friction brake and problem so...

The rudders were offset so that the shaft could be removed. Some boats had a square hole in the rudder to remove the shaft.

That plastic may be original, and could be Nautolex. However maybe someone has redone the deck previous to your ownership. I would look for other 57 Sport Express models and see what they have used or what was originally used. If you were to use canvas use the "Titebond" method. If you were to use N...

Used the afore mentioned "Wooden Boat Magazine" method. I used Titebond III instead of II......II is water resistant and III is waterproof. Used #12 cotton duck, purchased from J C Goss Company in Detroit. Got it in 96" width, so there are no seams. The fore deck was a snap, start from a centerline ...

I am in Michigan and the MC numbers are gold leafed on the boat. I put the registration stickers on thin plastic and cut to the size of the sticker. I keep them in the glove box. Okay, I'll take a stab at this since I just did this on a 25' CC. I believe it is a standard CC rudder stuffing box. Use the packing cord, alternate the joints of each piece opposite each other. What size and how many rings, you'll have to determine. I don't know what the goop is in the picture, it ...

Ivalite ......useful or just bling?

I am restoring a 25' CC Express cruiser. It came with an Ivalite with cable control. The light was mounted on the cabin top/starboard side edge/mid cabin. This is the helm side also. The cable went thru the roof and ran along the starboard side right above the window to the bulkhead, where it came t...

What are folks using to bed windows on cruisers. These are wooden framed and the glass is held in with wood quarter round molding. Not using 5200 in case I ever have to replace a glass. Clum switch "Dim"

I believe the "Dim" was from when it was used in an automobile, that's how you would dim your lights. When it is used in a boat "Dim" is for stern pole or "Anchor" light only. The other is for full navigation lights bow and stern including the dash panel. I have the identical clum switch on a 1936 C...

Gene, I believe they were hand painted in either gold or silver leaf, your preference. As for the template you might try Russ Arrands at the Cadillac Boat Shop. He has restored a couple prewar 22' utilities, one that is his personal boat. I'm sure he could point you in the right direction.

I believe they were called "stop waters" and they were dowels, usually made of a soft wood, possibly basswood that swells and seals the keel, stem and grip joints. I'll take a stab at 1 and 2. 1 could possibly be line guards that would mount in front of the forward chocks on the bow deck cap. #2 I believe are the corner seat supports for the helm and companion seats. Beautiful boat by the way.

Miwaukee 6580-20 Screwgun

The tool that I found most helpful in removing and refastening screws is a Milwaukee Screwgun 6580-20. 0-1200rpms with an adjustable clutch. This is a corded screw gun. The clutch is adjustable from 0-140 ftlbs. This enables you to gently move the screw with out ringing the head off. As you remove o...

If you can remove your strut it is so much easier. Simply press it out with an arbor press. Once you get it out, there should be a name stamped on the side. Angled guide posts

Joezel, the best method I have seen using "guide" posts is presented in Don Danenberg's second book Vol II page 168. The trailer has removable guides that come off the trailer at roughly a 45 degree angle, and there padded to protect the boat. They hit the boat at the chine on both sides of the boat....
