Re: The perfect Cruiser for a Car Nut
You failed to mention the length. From what I could find only the 36' Offered the 427 power. They made 14 in 1969. I'd look for old literature on EBAY or get a hull card package from the Mariners Museum.

Re: Fish Box with pump 1938-1939
Fish box is usually under the rear seat.
Aft steering is spliced in to the steering rod. Lift the floor in front of the rear seat and it will probably still be there.

Jake,
I have many used vents through here. Some were red inside. More were natural. No pattern that I could see.

If it were mine I'd do all I could to keep the original engine. If that were not possible my best choice would be a 454. Second would be a 350.

Find an old fashioned Starter/Generator shop. Take your generator in and have them match it up to a regulator.

NO. My books go back maybe 40 years. All horizontal caps seem to be the same. There are several straight up caps. No numbers like yours. Usually they are stamped in to a tag not cast in to the body.

Look for a Escort trailer. They are wishbone style. Get a galvanized one. They were sold new with Bayliner boats so there should be plenty that outlived the boats that were on them.

NO. Front motor mount to block. They align the two and stop the flywheel from hitting the front motor mount.

Unscrew all the visible screws. Then push the rubber seal back and there should be screws hiding behind it.

Make sure these get in the right place. They will cause funky noises if not installed properly.

Re: 1958 Sea Skiff hull number
Just a side note. I own a Sea-Skiff. It was sold to me as a 1959 26' boat. The Mariners Museum was closed at the time. I sent the title in and had it changed to my name in Illinois where I lived at the time. When the Museum opened I ordered the hull card package and it came back as a 1957 25'7" boat...

Re: Possible KBL Stuck Valve
Pull the spark plugs. you can see the valves down the hole. Rotate the engine and look. If one is stuck spray it with PB Blaster slowly so it goes down the stem. Then try to tap the valve head lightly. If that don't work try it for a few days before pulling the head.

I don't think changing the color is bad but black attract heat and shows imperfections and dirt.

Try using paint stripper in a test area. I would scrape it then use steel wool. Look at the paper outer surface and avoid breaking through the paper.

There are two volumes. Do you have both? I don't know of a better source. They are mostly carvel planked info vs lap strake tho. Be careful not to sand thru the outside layer of the plywood. It is paper like.

Have you sent your carb out and had it professionally done?
