Post by RichardSGambino » Sun Jun 01, 2008 7:47 pm

Taking my sportsman down to Jersey for the Lake Hopatcong show June 20-21. Who else is going or has had expirience there in the past? Any reason not to lauch at the Club?

Went there 20 years ago because my boat was sold here.
It was a nice show, great clubhouse setting and wondeful people. John and Kim Kadimick's Northwood Boat works is there...Ought to be a nice side visit.

It looks like on Sunday they're hosting breakfast and then a parade of boats from Northwood.

Then be sure and catch a ride...It is a fun trip...they used to have fireboats leading the way.

Just returned from the show. All I can say is WOW! They run a first class operation there that runs like clockwork from the dockmasters directing the slips to the great awards dinner. If you get a chance in future years try to attend. Congrats to the owners at my table of "Yankee", "Jennifer" and "My Baby", they all garnered awards.

The local Chamber or historical society might have some..Gary Scherb presently of Mt. Dora was raised on that lake. My boat came from the Lakeland Marine Base on the same lake. ( Took us a year to learn how to pronounce it...Hopatcong, that is) We were there for their show in the mid 80's and the condemnation sign on Laleland MB said it was to be torn down the Monday after we were there. We never could find any records on our boat.

Attached you will see an ad for Hockenjos from The Lake Hopatcong Breeze from June 1928 as well as a photo from a boat race with Hockenjos building in the backround. Both are from the Lake Hopatcong museum collection. If you can get me some backround on you boat I might be able to get it's history on the Lake.

Not much to tell...Everybody seemed to recall there were two 1949 or 1950 16' Riviera's on the lake. Wayne Mocksfield and sremember that one belonged to Wayne's uncle. Nobody seems to remember who owned the other one.

Thanks for the you-tube link. Never get to see the boat in action since I've always driven.

My boat also came from Lake Hopatcong. My hull card just states it was shipped to New Jersey but I know the buyer lived on Lake Hopatcong. From the posts it sounds like there were two Chris Craft Dealers on the lake, Hockenjos and Lakeland Marine Base. Does anyone know if one or both of these dealers were around in the late 20's? Thanks Dean

Both were Chris Craft dealers. Hockenjos was first in the early years, then Lakeland as late as the 1960's.

Great photo.. It sure seems that we most likely take a little more care today docking and lifting our old boats than this picture shows.
Thanks for sharing
