Okay, things are still muddy about what my boat actually is. The consensus was that it may be home built. Lonnie Sieck stopped by the other day to have a look at it, and he is unsure as well. He mentioned that it is possible that this is R-20-079, just hacked up and modified. I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's worth following up on. Lonnie recommended that I pull off all the random bits that seem to be non-original and try to find a hull number buried somewhere that is currently hidden from view.
So my question is, if it is a 1946 Custom, where could the hull ID be located? There are no engine hatches nor any of the original hatch deck framing, and the small fore-deck appears to be added later, so I'm out of luck there. Is there anything along the keel somewhere?
Thanks for the help!
Brian

Re: Post-War Custom Hull ID Numbers
The smaller boats were not numbered as frequently as the larger cruisers. To my understanding stringers are usually your best hope. I have also heard of markings up forward under the bow.
Good Luck!

This does not pertain to your boat, but I find it interesting.
In the Holland plant, where cruisers were built, the parts would be marked and held on the second floor. When the assembly line was ready the part was lowered to the first floor for installation in the appropriate boat.
It is not unheard of for the parts to have gotten onto the wrong boat. I have actually heard of one boat who's parts had three different numbers on it.
