YouTube of REALLY OLD boats

Post by jfrprops » Tue Jan 24, 2012 10:42 pm

Gang,

If any of you share my fascination with early woodyboat commerce...there is the coolest film/vid series on youtube:
This is a series of 4 short films made by THOMAS EDISON & co. in 1917. They follow a boat towed down the C and O Canal from the mountains to Washington DC.
This footage is almost a century old and captivating....wish we had such vids of Chris Smith and Co etc etc. You can see how the locks worked, and the canal boats and everything!
Go to youtube and enter: C and O Canal 1917 to view.

I watched all three vids yesterday, they were ok the guy in the small boat must be getting pulled at a decent clip cause in a few shots theres quite a wake comin off the front of his little "raft" and theres one shot where he looks a little shady with his hat on ,smokin his pipe he keeps lookin back at the lock operater like someones following him ( police or feds) but never seems to say anything or wave like if he did someone would remember him and turn him in
