Free classic glass in New England

If it doesn't pertain to metal, fiberglass, wire or fabric—but it is about classic fiberglass Chris-Crafts, ask your question or give your advice here.

Free classic glass in New England

Post by Paul P » Fri Jul 13, 2012 10:26 am

EDIT UPDATE: As of July 23, 2012, it is my understanding that both of the boats noted in the posting below have been saved, and both are now in the hands of a person who gives assurance that they will be restored. Thanks to all who helped get the word out, because both of these need to appear at a boat show sometime in the future, as I dare say not many of you have ever seen one in the water. The remainder of this thread is left as it was originally posted.

regards,

Paul

Anyone in New England take note, there are two very classic fiberglass Chris Craft boats that are VERY worthy of restoration, and all you have to do is go get them.

Here is the link to info and photos. Originally posted for sale, but now the man is urgently trying to find someone interested. It would be a shame to have these hauled off to the junk yard.

Good luck

More info on these boats. Please read.

I have been working with the owner to try to find a home for these boats and save them from the salvage guy. The two boats in question are very significant to the early glass era of CC. One is number 5 of the 1965 model Corsair which is the first year. It had the early deck design and trim. The second boat is number 10 of 10. 1967 Sea Skiffs. 1967 was the last year for the Skiff which makes this the final Sea Skiff Chris Craft ever made.
The boats need complete restorations but are complete and simply need hauling away. With glass boats starting to catch the interest of serious antique boat fans and growing in popularity, there is a need to prevent important boats like these from being lost. Please contact me directly for more info. Area code eight six zero- two eight one-four one one seven. Thank you.

I just left a message for Lee Heinzman, president of the Southern New England ACBS Chapter, to give me a call here at the office, so I can help spread the word to enthusiasts and collectors in the immediate area.

I have seen how several of these very same hulls have been fully restored during the last few years and they are good looking boats and great performers.

You can't beat the starting price for a project either.

Distance has many of us baffled on this one, and I can tell you that if these boats were in my central Tennessee area anywhere close I would have them on my property now.

regards,

Paul

We are doing Classic Plastic week on Woodyboater this week, we will do a fun story and try and reach out to boat savers. I just pray they are not taken and used for horrible medical experiments!

John,

I understand the owner of the boats would give you the bush-hog (free) except for the fact that you offended a notable part of Chris-Craft fiberglass history by referring to it as Tupperware. He commented that maybe you were more familiar with fiberglass Bayliners than Chris-Craft boats (don't worry, I spoke on your behalf and told him you were, lol. He is reconsidering the bush-hog now.)

Hey, what are friends for? 8)

best,

Paul

Thanks Matt, Hope the long arm of Woddy Boater can reach out and touch someone with an appreciation for plastic. No chopper guns on these guys, by the way, all laid up by hand using the same resins and glass as used in all the Commander cruisers and tournament fisherman models.

Here is a plug that came out of my own #39 20-foot Sea Skiff in order to install a flat profile high speed transducer. My hull is identical to these boats, with very very similar topsides. I wanted to include this photo to help spread the love, especially for John in Va., because they sure don't make Tupperware like they used to ! Image

Dang, that is a fantastic picture of what went into these boats. I know the commander series are built like tanks! I love it...

UPDATE ~~ The boats have been saved !

Post by Paul P » Mon Jul 23, 2012 10:12 am

Hi Guys,

I received a note from Craig saying the boats have been saved, going to a gent who gives assurance they will both be fully restored.

Thanks to the classic boating network at large, including all of the members here and at Woody Boater too, who helped talk this up and help find someone capable of retrieving them from a frightful end.

Regards,

Paul
