I am trying to bring a 23' lancer back to life. I'm not aiming for a perfect restoration, but rather to make a great boat great to use again.
I've spoken to a canvas man about replacing the cuddy "monkey fur" with a headliner of some sort, but he said it's too difficult and not worth it.
I really find the rabbit fur a creepy reminder of the 70s -- any ideas for an alternative/replacement covering?
Thank you for your suggestions!

Do you have an image of that fur? KEEP IT 70's Thats is energy of coolness, otherwise its just another plastic boat.. Ya need an 8 track as well. And a can of Schlitz... Chops, you need chops, niiice side burns.. and shorts that are one size to small. Go all the way..

I know I've been living under a rock here in Tennessee, and I don't get out much, don't even know what fork to use when I do get out......but guys.........I personally do not intend to have a boat with anything called "monkey fur" on it, lol.

Paul

replace fur
Just stoped,
but you can get hull liner fabric to replace the monkey hair. Its used on bigger boats as inside wall covering. comes thick or short .
Very easy to glue and forms well with a sharp blade.

Re: Monkey Fur Removal/Replacement
As part of the process of epoxying our crazed deck, we decided the 40 year old monkey fur had to go. We purchased an off-white ivory carpet-like hull liner from Sailrite. It has a little stretch to it so goes around the curves of the overhead where the glove box is. We put it on with 3m 77 spray adhesive, altho I think the 3M General Trim Adhesive would have been better as it lets you lift the fabric and move it a few times while you are getting little wrinkles out, etc. Sailrite was very helpful with advice. We purchased 6 yds and that was just enough with a few scraps left over. The price is $19.95/yd. We even covered the inside of the sliding hatch!
