I have several screws that have come loose and have stripped out of the wood.
What do I need to do to re-screw to keep the integrity of the original wood?

Depending on the application, a few wooden matchsticks inserted in the hole might hold on some trim. Better if you glue in a dowel. For a heavier load like the bent part of rub rails you might drill the hole out to 3/8" and epoxy in a short piece of 3/8" dowel. I am assuming you are talking about #6 or #8 size screws.

hi Steve, don't feel bad, we all have a screw loose... Oh come on, how many times in your life do you get to use that line and it makes sense.. I carry on board small peices of wood for this vary reason.

There is also the golf tee method. Not everyone is aware that golf tees are made from hardwood. I keep a bag of unpainted tees on my workbench. You just tap the tee into the hole and then trim it flush and either re-drill or just put a new screw in.
