Queensland Maritime Museum

Post by Pete DeVito » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:15 pm

While traveling around Australia the last couple of weeks I had a chance to visit the Queensland Maritime Museum. It was a great museum and I really went looking for some antique wooden boats.. well I found them in a small warehouse in the back of the lot full to the ceiling. I believe this warehouse is the home of their wood boat society which they also displayed some Seagull British outboards.

They allowed me to take as many pictures as I wanted so I thought I would share..

The boat on the wall second from the bottom was General Douglas MacAurthur's dinghy used as a tender and originally with a small inboard.

Great example of some early boat building downunder...

Pete,
Thanks for sharing the pics. That's the first stationary outboard engine with movable rudder I recall seeing. Very interesting.
