This auction was a great success!
Five great boats have three new owners (one guy bought three of the boats).
I had a ton of fun being part of the action and hats off to Dana Mecum and Scott Ales.

Here is a quote taken from Scott Ales on Woodyboater.com (hope you don't mind me posting this, Scott)

Yes, that was a shortcoming of the TV broadcast. As I stood on the block I can fill you in a little.
* 18' Cobra: very spirited bidding! At least 5-7 bidders in the audience, two on the phone. One phone bidder regretted not bidding again.
* Miss Arrowhead-1940 C-C 27' Racing Runabout barrelback: Limited bidding activity in the room, maybe two bidders and one phone bidder. I worked the final bidder and the seller to make the deal a few minutes after the auction.
* Riva-1965 26'4" Aquarama: Again, spirited bidding on both the phone and in the room. At least 8-9 in all. Ultimately went to a family from Argentina that showed heavy interest all day Friday and Saturday. Second to last bidder also wished he had not quit. (This is a common comment from those in second place, it is easy to say when the pressure is off you! Take it with a grain of salt.)
* Typhoon-1929 29' Hackercraft Dolphin Deluxe: Bidding on this boat was aggressive at first then slowed once the $200k mark was achieved. In my opinion the buyer was most pleased when the hammer fell on this boat. My opinion? Well bought and sold. Boats of this caliber do not come along very often not to mention the provenance!
* Apache II-1922 29' Liberty V-12 powered Race Boat: Strong bidding on both the phone and in the room for a better than expected hammer price. At least 5 bidders on this one.
Overall we were extremely pleased with the interest and comments from those participating and attending the event. While it is true that three boats were purchased by one person the amount of activity from other bidders drove the price performance. This is the true value to the hobby. We expect a few articles from the event coming soon since the Monterey crowd had never seen such beauties before! We appreciatte the support from all the "Woody" enthusiasts and look forward to pushing the envelope further. At Mecum, we are committed to creating a true marketplace for these works of art. It is long overdue!

Spokes in the wheel
It was indeed a pleasure to provide the auction service for such knowledgeable and professional owners. While Dana and I appreciate the comments it is through all parties that any degree of success is achieved. From our efforts at Mecum, the owners participation, or any one of the many supporters and promoters we all made it happen!
And for that, Dana and I say, "Thank You!"
And remember, "Nobody Sells More Wood Boats than Mecum. Nobody!"

Tom,
They actually made two. The auction boat is the only known survivor.

Tom,
C-C made ten 27' Special Race Boats/Racing Runabouts within the 27' Custom production. In 1937 they called them Special Race Boats, and from 1938-1941 they were called Racing Runabouts. Like Jim said, in 1940 only two were built, with Miss Arrowhead being the only surviving example.
C-C also built seven 26' Special Race Boats from 1934-1936.

Wilson,
There are three 27-foot Racers left, but Miss Arrowhead is the only one in the barrelback series (1940-41)
The other two survivors are Royal Flush III (1939) and Lady Gen III (1937)
There are also three of the seven 26' Special Race Boats in existance: Madoshumi V, Jay Dee II, and Star.
