Stainless Steel Trim Pieces

Post by raintree » Mon Jun 16, 2014 7:18 am

Good Morning,
I have a 19' Skiff. I am in need of the the stainless steel bump pieces that finish off the corners of the hull.
Where can I find them.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
If you are talking about the transom bands. Vertical pieces on the side at the rear. Try Mike at www.cutwaters.com

On this subject...

My 1956 30' sea skiff had two sets of metal bands at the transom and I was wondering if both sets were original??

One band is about 1/2" wide "rub rail" type half round and applied to very ends of the plywood (I would imagine this is needed and original)

The other band was about 1-1/2" wide flat Stainless and applied to the very back edge of the hullside. (these seemed less needed and less original.) you see these on carvel planked boats that have the transom overlap the hullside but my hullside overlaps the transom.

Any thoughts out there?

Thanks!

I took mine to a stainless steel fabricator and asked them to duplicate my 24' 1965 Sea Skiff transom bands. (2 pieces on each side) Exact size, screw hole positioning, etc. They also polished them. Look like chrome. Cost $200. :)

The 1/2 rub rail on the edge of the plywood is not original. The plwyood was finished with stain and varnish like the transom.

Wow! that is surprising. My plywood is not even completely flush with the transom planks.

I am going to the show in St. Clair this weekend....I hope there are lots of Sea Skiff to study.

As I remember the old skiff I had and my father had ( both late 50s 30' cruisers) the plywood ended an 1/8 inch before the planks of the transom emerged. N0 trim. Just finish.

Yup. That is how it is. About an 1/8" shy

Thanks for the great info Jim!
