Ammeter Wiring
Can anyone help me identify the two poles on the rear of this ammeter? 1959 Chris Craft Continental with original 283 V8 engine. No markings on the rear of the ammeter. Any help is appreciated.
Re: Ammeter Wiring
One is IN and the other is OUT. Not sure but you could try the one on the right as IN and left as OUT.
The wire from your generator or alternator goes to IN and your loads (lights, bilge pump, blower, etc.) wire to OUT.
If you wire it backwards nothing bad will happen it just will display positive when loaded and negative when charging. If this happens just swap the wires.
Under normal circumstances (wired correctly) it will show positive when battery is charging and negative when a load is on.
Don't run your horn through the ammeter as it will just peg the meter when you blow the horn.
