Sandusky Natural & Interlux Natural filler stain for "blond"

Post by jwoldeboat » Thu Feb 25, 2016 7:15 pm

Has anyone used the Sandusky Natural filler stain as a replacement for the Interlux natural filler stain for the capri blond areas of decking ?? I have had very good experiance in the past when i used the Interlux natural on the blond areas of decking and am not sure the Sandusky Natural is going to be the same even though they say it is a match for the interlux Thanks for any info on this subject

I have not had any experience doing work with "blonds" (at least not in regards to boats), but I have worked very successfully with other Sandusky filler stain with great results.

I guess my real question is - If you are happy with the results of the Interlux product, why change? :?

I second having good results with the Sandusky filler stain. Used it on my Lyman and it turned out great. I never tried the blonde color so I can't say how that compares with the Interlux in matching the Chris Craft blonde stain. You may have to buy it, test it on a piece of the same wood that's not attached to the boat, put 4 or 5 coats of varnish on it and compare.

I switched to Dave Jerome's paste stains several years ago, will never go back to any "mix" type stains.

Are Dave's gel stains still available, and from where?

One tip from Dave (RIP) never sand finer than 100 grit before you apply the paste stain.
