1930 Badge Restoration
When new, what did this dash panel badge look like? What is the procedure for it's restoration? Thanks.

Re: 1930 Badge Restoration
I would assume black. Easy to do. Back then color would not have been all that used. If you notice the type is smooth and the texture holds paint. Looks fantastic all cleaned up. YES, this is a different one pictured. But all of them are like this.

Jim,
Since all of the non black areas are raised you should be able to do what I did.
Spray the whole badge black and then take a small piece of sand paper and rub lightly over the whole badge so you sand off the black paint on the high spots (letters and borders).
You can optionally clear coat when done. I did not and they still look good years later.

Re: 1930 Badge Restoration
Here is a story I did on it, the pics show. I used like a 400 -600 grit sandpaper. https://www.woodyboater.com/blog/2020/0 ... rk-method/

Re: 1930 Badge Restoration
The proper sheen is to use semi-gloss black and then don't clear it or it will be shiny again.

Yes! I have found being in salt water that the semi gloss clear helps. It slows down the dulling. The fun part is the restoration of it.
